Designer Hot Takes

Its all in the title! Here is a running list of our interior designer hot takes..

You Don’t Need A Design Style!

Many people think finding their design style is step one when designing their home. But the truth is you don’t need a design style to have a beautifully designed space. What you should do instead is notice consistency in designs that you like. Save images that you like, Pinterest is your new best friend. They don’t necessarily have to be the same room you are designing. What I mean by this is, if you are designing a living room but you like an image of a bedroom, save that! Now take a look at all your inspiration together and notice reoccurring colours, patterns and materials. Then use this as a guide when designing your space!

Do You Actually Like It, Or Is It A Trend

How can you know if a trend is right for you? Ask yourself… when this trend is over, will I still like it? Does it spark joy? Does it suite me and my existing style? Imagine yourself 5 years from now and your friend comes for a visit and lets you know that your lamp is feeling out of style.. does that make you want to change it or do you not care because you actually like it. If you actually like it then go for it!

Mixing Wood Tones

Wondering if you can mix wood tones? The short answer is yes! But be careful, having a lot of different wood tones in a space can make it feel disjointed. The key to mixing wood tones is to recognize that each tone represents a colour in your colour palette. Then you can treat those wood tones as you would any other colour. Repeat them, scatter them through the room and don’t have too many so the room feels cohesive.
